Science at Hollesley
Principles and Vision
At Hollesley we believe that good science occurs when:
- It helps children to understand the world around them
- Children can learn through practical activities and scientific questioning
- Children can explore new areas that they want to investigate
These beliefs make up our school science principles. Our child-friendly version of these principles can be seen below on a poster designed by a year 6 pupil. This poster is displayed in all classrooms for use within science lessons..jpg)
Our vision incorporates these three principles. At Hollesley Primary School, we aim to give the children a Science curriculum which enables them to discover the world around them, so that they have a deeper understanding of the world in which we live in. We do this through practical activities and opportunities which allow further questions to arise. We believe that through these experiences, the children will understand the relevance of science to their lives now and in the future.
Curriculum
Following the National Curriculum, Science at Hollesley aims to ensure that all pupils:
- develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics
- develop understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of science enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them
- are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future.
