Welcome to the “Friends of Hollesley School”!

We are a group of parent volunteers (and a registered charity) who organise several fundraising events for the school throughout the year. We raise money to provide many extras for the school, help out around school when extra hands are required, and provide opportunities for children and parents to socialise and have fun together.

Over the past few years we have raised money to provide the children with a school kitchen and cooking equipment, and helped to pay for whole school trips and playground benches. We are currently looking into establishing a school orchard and updating the kitchen garden and wildlife area. We also hope soon to be able to purchase some new and exciting playground equipment for the school.

To do our bit to reduce landfill the friends have purchased a set of 30 children’s plates and beakers, to hire out to families of the school for parties etc.  The cost of hire is £3.  To be washed prior to returning please. Please speak to any of the friends to arrange hire.

Meetings are held at school or at the Shepherd and Dog pub in Hollesley. We are a very friendly group and always welcome new faces – it’s a great way to get to know other parents.

If meetings aren’t your thing then there are always lots of other ways you can support us and your school, such as baking cakes for our coffee afternoons or helping out in the school garden. If you’re keen to help just speak to one of the “Friends” Committee in the playground or at our next coffee afternoon, and look out for our emails with Flyers of upcoming events.

Wildlife Area

A team from the Friends worked throughout the summer to create a new wildlife area and forest school to conserve and enhance nature and landscape assets in the school grounds. The special area is where pupils can learn more about the importance of the environment.

The school received more than £7,000 in funding from conservation organisation Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in support of the project. Additionally, energy firm EDF Energy sent a team from the Sizewell B power station to help with creating the wildlife areas.

We are trying to help tackle the climate emergency by supporting nature recovery through conservation and enhancement of wildlife habitat, whilst identifying the benefits of sustainable practices and carbon reduction. We're extremely grateful for the support from the Coast and Heaths AONB, the grant money has allowed us to create this amazing setting on a much greater scale than our original plan of using PTA funds alone.

The wildlife area is not just for the school but also to invite other schools, as well as the local community and the village to make use of the facility. We are so proud of the project and the work that has been done and we wanted to promote it.
